Eastern iowa review poetry prize
The Eastern Iowa Review Poetry Prize (formerly the Zero Bone Poetry Prize) will award three poets a prize for poems deemed in keeping with our goals of smart writing from a "good spaces" context suitable for a wide audience. We may also select honorable mentions.
Open to submissions January 1, 2016 through April 30, 2016. A decision will be made by mid-May and winners announced online.
New for 2016:
Online submissions only (via Submittable)
A reading fee of $3 per grouping of 1 to 5 poems; submit as many times after hearing back from us as you wish. Do recall that in 2014 & 2015, we took only mail submissions at a cost of $2 per poem, plus cost of shipping and envelope. A $3 fee for up to 5 poems is an obviously better deal.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded to 3 poets, not necessarily 3 poems. That is, if a poet submits 5 poems and we love 3 of them, 1 of them, or all 5 of them, and we deem the poet deserving of a first place award for the single or the grouping, they will get the one first place prize. That is, prizes are issued per poet, not per poem.
No poem length restrictions.
No poem style restrictions. Prose poems are welcome as are found poems, free verse, haiku, rhyming poems, etc.
No poem topic restrictions, but do remember that we're looking for "good spaces" for a wide (i.e., family-friendly) audience. Essentially, if your poem contains profanity, overt sexuality, graphic violence, or other potentially offensive elements, it will be declined.
Include all poems in one document; separate by page breaks or titles.
All poems must be completely unpublished (no blogs, Facebook, etc., appearances; no reprints whatsoever).
All winning poems will be included in the 2016 print edition of the Eastern Iowa Review, release date summer, 2016. Some or all poems may also appear online.
Prize amounts this year: 1st place poet - $100, 2nd place poet - $50, 3rd place poet - $25. Winners will also receive 1 copy of the issue in which their poem(s) appear and a reduced buying rate for extra copies.
