BRONTË PEARSON

KENTUCKY HILLS

I was reborn on a hilltop in Kentucky
where the ultraviolet light
of the sun that kissed my lips
shone brilliantly into the cynical
shadows of my chest that believed
they could only exist in the darkest
shade of black while the friction
of soft grass rolled a testimony of love
onto my skin like a match licking
against the parabolic waves
of the earth we accelerated against
until I ignited and exploded into
a marathon of stars that blissfully glow
over the brightest hilltop in Kentucky.
